Every listed contact should be informed of their contact status, the next actions they need to do, the importance of receiving early care if they develop symptoms, and the preventive measures they need to follow to avoid further transmission of the virus. Quarantine is necessary in accordance with public health regulations. In case of COVID-19 infection, contacts must self-isolate at home for up to 14 days.

In some cases where the infected person went to a large public event that makes it impossible to identify individual contacts, media, and digital tools for mass communication are used to inform the possible contacts.

Step 3: Contact follow-up

Regular follow-up is done with all the contacts to monitor for symptoms and test for signs of infection. Healthcare staff get in touch with the contacts to offer them counseling, virus screening, and treatment if needed.
